Oral histories
The Collection
The Town of Cambridge Oral History Collection, also known as Cambridge Voices, records and preserves the history of the Town through personal stories and experiences. With over 100 recorded interviews, the Cambridge Voices Collection is filled with memories and historical anecdotes from people who have lived or worked in the local area.
Our Collection also holds a treasury of compilations, bringing together many peoples memories about the Old Plank Road, the Quarry Amphitheatre, and the war time era to name a few. The Collection features topics within the Town of Cambridge such as romance, Remembrance Day, and the “Perth Commonwealth Games Golden Jubilee”, showcasing the 1962 VII British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
Watch the Perth Commonwealth Games Golden Jubilee compilation video for interviews from athletes, volunteer drivers, the original poster artist and more, played to a backdrop of beautiful old film footage and photographs.
You can loan Oral Histories from our Local Studies collection at Cambridge Library. Each oral history interview comes in a DVD case that includes two disks - the audio of the interview in MP3 format (playable on most devices), and the transcript of the interview in PDF format.
