Photograph collection

The Cambridge Library Local Studies photographic collection contains over 2,000 images, and growing.

The images include the VII British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1962, people relaxing and enjoying yachting on Lake Monger, school groups in the early 1900s, and many other photographic treasures.

Do you have old photographs of places, people, buildings, scenes, events etc. within the Town of Cambridge area? If you do, we would love to talk with you!

We are interested in all aspects of history, for example pictures of your house being built, and how it looks now is important for future historical and architectural research. Pictures of the laying of foundations stones, church events, sporting events and even pictures of the landscape and happy snaps at the beach are all of great relevance to how the future sees the past.

Photographs can be brought into Local Studies where we can scan and return originals to you, and also provide you with a copy of the digital photograph on a disc for you to take home. We are also happy to accept donations of original photographs into the collection should you wish. We have a special climate controlled room to store them and acid free photograph albums.

We will discuss with you how you would like us to use the photograph in the collection; whether we can use the photograph online on our website and social media sites, on our blog or in a physical display. It's easy and it is all up to you.

For help finding photographs, obtaining copies of photographs or to donate photographs please contact the Local Studies Librarian on 08 9383 8969 or librarylocalstudies@cambridge.wa.gov.au
